The process begins

Fast forward, and here we are having had the first meeting with our social worker recently.
And we've had our medical examinations with the GP - weighed, measured, wee sample, prodding, questioning - all that stuff!
So our process is finally starting.... wow, we are finally getting going with the adoption approval process.  It seems unreal - almost "out of body" type experience.
From now on, for the coming six months or so, we will spend many hours and days reflecting on our lives - history and present - asking questions of ourselves and finding out more about who we are.  Who we are and the kind of parents we might become.  Because one day, we really might become parents.
And that is what I have to focus on - the family at the end of all this digging and delving.  Remember what we are in this for - so that we might have our own family.  So that we might hear the laughter of children through the rooms of our house.
That's what this is for.
All the questioning, answering, form filling.  All the anguish and emotional turmoil (which is sure to happen - there's no delving into the past without some emotional baggage being shaken loose...).
So from today onward, that's my focus.... being a parent.  Being a mother.  Having the opportunity to nurture and support children growing up in this world.
I am scared.  I am like a rabbit in the headlights.  But I am excited - so very excited.  Because finally, finally, we are on the way to family life........ happy.
Here goes, hold hands and.... JUMP!
